A Timeline of SABA Florida Events

2004

Summer of 2004 – 

SABA Florida is founded by Rahul Ranadive, Kamlesh Oza, Manju Kalidindi, and Saif Ishoof in South Florida, with a mission to support the professional needs, aspirations, and excellence of South Asian Attorneys.

2007

November 15, 2007-

SABA Florida expands from its South Florida roots across the state of Florida, prompting recognition and the following announcement from the Florida Bar: https://www.floridabar.org/the-florida-bar-news/south-asian-bar-association-of-florida-expands-statewide/.

November 2007-

SABA North America National Leadership Retreat. 

2007

2007-

SABA Florida hosted a Domestic Violence panel at University of Miami, consisting of an attorney, a domestic court judge and a social worker/volunteer from Sahara to educate the community about how to get an injunction against a domestic abuser spouse. 

 

2009

April 30, 2009-

Governor Charlie Crist appoints longtime SABA Florida friend and mentor Meenu Sasser to a circuit judgeship on the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida; on taking the bench, Judge Sasser became the first Asian American circuit court judge in Palm Beach County.

2011

August 11, 2011-

Governor Rick Scott appoints Anuraag Singhal, a longtime friend and mentor to SABA Florida, to a circuit judgeship on the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida.

2011

November 2011-

SABA Florida held its Diversity Leadership Forum at the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, honoring judges Anuraag Singhal and Meenu Sasser, the event drew recognition from the Florida Bar: https://www.floridabar.org/the-florida-bar-news/saba-florida-hosts-diversity-leadership-forum-at-um-law/.

2015

SABA North America Annual Conference in Orlando

2016

June 10, 2016-

Amit Agarwal, a longtime SABA Florida supporter, is appointed as the Solicitor General of Florida. Mr. Agarwal previously served as the Deputy Chief of the Appellate Division for the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida in Miami and also clerked for Circuit Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Justice Samuel Alito.

2017

December 27, 2017-

SABA Florida hosts its Third Annual Banquet in Orlando; speakers and honorees include Florida Bar President-Elect Michelle Susakuer and Brevard County Judge Alli “A.B.” Majeed, one of the first judges of Asian descent in the state of Florida. 

2018-2019

Rishi Bagga, SABA Florida President became SABA Nation President.

2019

December 19, 2019-

Judge Anuraag Singhal is confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, making him the first Article III federal court judge of Asian descent in the Eleventh Circuit.

2020

July 30, 2020-

SABA Florida hosts a wellness webinar featuring internationally acclaimed author and speaker Mallika Chopra, the daughter of the famed Deepak Chopra.
